May 6, 2018. On Friday evening, a group of Palestinian protestors broke into the Palestinian side of Kerem Shalom Crossing. Apparently believing that they had reached the Israeli side of the commercial crossing, they set fire to the offices and a gravel conveyor belt, destroyed a generator and office equipment, and damaged the fuel and gas lines.

On Saturday morning, representatives of the Palestinian Border Authority visited the crossing in coordination with Israeli authorities in order to assess the damage, estimated at millions of shekels. On Sunday morning the crossing resumed regular operations, including transfer of fuel. Repairs to equipment have begun and are ongoing.
