Palestinian Education Ministry in Gaza prevents eight high school students from leaving the Strip to study in the US.
The students are recipients of US State Department-funded scholarships administered by AMIDEAST, which are awarded to outstanding candidates after a year-long selection process. The education ministry quoted “social and cultural reasons” as the grounds for preventing the students from participating in the program.

Changes at Rafah Crossing
In late May 2011, Egypt announced the permanent opening of Rafah Crossing to all Gaza residents holding a Palestinian passport and identity card. Travel by men between the ages of 18 and 40 will be permitted under specific conditions. Gisha is following the implementation of the new policy.

Freedom of Information Petition – Entry of Workers to Israel
On May 11, 2011, the court held a hearing in Gisha’s petition for information on the policy regarding the granting of permits to Palestinian residents of the West Bank to enter and work in Israel. The judge ordered the state to file its response within 60 days.
