Gisha files Freedom of Information application asking for details and figures on Israel’s herbicide spraying policy in Gaza’s “buffer zone”

January 10, 2016

In late December, the IDF Spokesperson confirmed that the military was spraying areas inside the Gaza Strip with herbicides in order to destroy vegetation near the border fence. Gaza farmers report that the spraying caused serious damage to crops over a wide area.

On January 10, 2016, we filed an application for information from the IDF Spokesperson (Hebrew) with respect to how the decision to spray crops in the area was made; whether alternatives had been considered; what preparations were made ahead of the spraying; whether farmers in the Gaza Strip and in Israel were informed prior to the spraying; what type of herbicides were used and how; what the effects of the spraying are and what was done to address these effects.
