February 24, 2014. In an interview yesterday for Israeli public radio, Chairperson of Gisha’s Board Professor, Kenneth Mann, talked about the significance of the public defender’s office, Gisha’s work and the importance of human rights organizations in Israel. “We must welcome the fact that Israel has organizations that defend other populations”, said Prof. Mann “but look at what the government is trying to do – to make it difficult for these organizations to carry out their work by imposing all sorts of sanctions on them, like special taxes on foreign income”.
Prof. Mann added: “[Israel’s] policy makes it very difficult for the residents there [Gaza] to make a living and to develop the economy. We believe that the development of a thriving economy in Gaza is both an Israeli and a Palestinian interest in order to bring about more fundamental changes in society”.
