“I have yet to understand how stopping a young woman from pursuing gender studies […] protects my security”
July 20, 2015. Tania Hary, Gisha’s deputy director, briefed the Security Council in what is known as an Arria-formula presentation entitled ‘Reflections One Year Later and Charting a New Course for Gaza’. Arria meetings are informal, confidential and allow the Security Council to hear from international organizations and other non-state actors on a topic of interest. Ambassador Diego Arria of Venezuela, for which the events are named, introduced the practice in 1992.
The other speakers who delivered presentations to the council were: Vance Culbert, Country Director, Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) and Ms. Sara Roy, Senior Research Scholar, Center for Middle Eastern Studies, Harvard University. Pre-recorded video presentations were given by Wafaa Kafarna, Deputy Project Manager, NRC and Ardi Imseis, Cambridge University.
