“The restrictions on access between Gaza and the West Bank create a situation that prevents reconstruction”

“So long as these restrictions are in place, there can be no functioning economy, let alone a thriving economy”.

March 2, 2015. Eitan Diamond, Gisha Executive Director, was interviewed on IDF Radio show, “security zone” yesterday: “The restrictions on access between Gaza and the West Bank create a situation that prevents reconstruction. So long as these restrictions are in place, there can be no functioning economy, let alone a thriving economy [in Gaza]”.

“The separation policy and the closure policy have been justified in the past based on all sorts of security and political considerations. We haven’t seen any security gains since this policy came into being. We have seen rounds of fighting: Warm Winter, Cast Lead, Pillar of Defense, Protective Edge. The situation really is terrible, and if it isn’t fixed, we’re probably going to see another violent eruption”, Diamond said in the interview.
