Rafah continues to operate under restricted conditions
July 14, 2013. Rafah Crossing will operate today under restricted conditions. The crossing is expected to be open from 11:30 – 15:30 in order to allow Palestinians who are stranded on the Egyptian side of the crossing to return home. Egyptian citizens, medical patients with official referrals from the Ministry of Health, foreign passport holders and people with foreign residency status or permits to be in Egypt will be allowed to travel from Gaza to Egypt. The crossing was closed on Friday and operated on Saturday according to these same restricted conditions.
The crossing was completely closed from July 5-10 due to events in Egypt, stranding thousands of Palestinians in Egypt and other countries. More than 10,000 people were also estimated to be stuck inside Gaza, unable to travel out.
