Rafah Crossing open and operating at reduced capacity
July 10, 2013. Rafah Crossing was opened this morning. The crossing, which will operate at reduced capacity, was opened at 9:30 and will be closed at 14:30. Palestinians waiting on the Egyptian side of Rafah will be able to return to Gaza. Egyptian citizens, medical patients who have an official referral from the ministry of health, and individuals who hold foreign passports will be permitted to leave Gaza and enter Egypt.
The crossing has been closed since Friday afternoon, as a result of events in Egypt. About 10,000 Palestinians have been waiting in Gaza for the crossing to open in order to leave for Egypt. Many Palestinians are also stuck on the Egyptian side of the crossing, in Saudi Arabia and in other countries, unable to return home.
