“If Israel recognizes how essential the crossing is for the civilian population, why did it close it for six days straight”?

March 10, 2013. Gisha Executive Director Sari Bashi wrote an op-ed for Ma’ariv about Israel’s decision to shut down the Kerem Shalom crossing and further restrict travel through the Erez crossing two weeks ago.

From the op-ed
“The Ministry of Foreign Affairs’ announcement reads: ’Kerem Shalom Crossing is the primary commercial goods crossing into the Gaza Strip, and therefore serves a vital function for the civilian population in Gaza’. The Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories mentioned the real victims of the closure of the crossing: “It’s a shame that the population of the Gaza Strip is again paying a price for Hamas’ greed”. If Israel recognizes how essential the crossing is for the civilian population, why did it close it for six days straight”?
