Additional internal documents on the Gaza closure policy released to Gisha

We continue to publish documents released to us by the Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) regarding the policy on movement of people to and from the Gaza Strip since 2005. The documents were given to Gisha as part of a petition under the Freedom of Information Act the organization filed with Physicians for Human Rights-Israel and HaMoked: Center for the Defence of the Individual. The petition was filed at the Tel Aviv District Court in February 2011, and in May of that year, COGAT began releasing the documents gradually.

These constitute official documentation of the criteria for the passage of people applied by the State of Israel to residents of the Gaza Strip. They describe who was allowed leave the Gaza Strip for Israel and the West Bank and who was not over time.

The petition which led to the public disclosure of these documents was filed as part of Gisha’s ongoing efforts to promote a transparent and informed public debate on Israel’s policy with respect to the passage of people and civilian goods to and from the Gaza Strip.
