New data from the Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics

The Palestinian Central Bureau of Statistics of the Palestinian Authority published updated statistics about the Gaza Strip on July 11, 2011:
• Number of residents of the Gaza Strip: 1,588,691, of whom 53% are under the age of 18.
• Population density: 4,353 people/km2
• Fertility rate (2010): 4.9 babies (as opposed to 6.9 in 1997, and as opposed to 3.8 in the West Bank in 2010)
• Average family size: 6.5 in 2010 (as opposed to 6.9 in 1997 and 5.6 in the West Bank in 2010).
• Poverty rate: 38.1% of residents of Gaza (for a family of five with an income of less than 2,237 NIS or $609)
• Computers can be found in 45.6% of households in Gaza (2009)
• Internet access: 30.9% of families in Gaza (2009, compared to 27.2 in the West Bank)
