Gisha welcomes decision to negotiate resumption of cooperation with UN Human Rights Council

In response to today's report that Israel is negotiating a resumption of cooperation with the United Nations Human Rights council:

We welcome the Prime Minister's decision to find a way to restore cooperation between Israel and the UN Human Rights Council. Participation in the session that was postponed can benefit citizens of Israel and residents of the territories it controls, whose rights the process is designed to protect.

Israeli human rights organizations had expressed concern over Israel's refusal to participate in the Universal Periodic Review process, which was to have taken place in January. The Council postponed the hearing to a date no later than November 2013, in order to give Israel an opportunity to reverse its decision.
